Who are the home providers?
Home providers range from their 50’s to their 90’s. They want to keep living in their own homes and may need some assistance with chores. Some folks just have big houses they’d like to share in exchange for help and a small monthly fee.
Most home providers are hale and hearty, facing the issues of aging or disabilities to be sure, but still lively and not seeking personal care. Some home providers are in need of a home seeker who can provide medical caregiving — but this is not the norm.
Our home providers most often want help with the cooking, grocery shopping, laundry, yard work and/or snow shoveling. It is also usually important for them to have a “protective presence” around the house, especially overnight.
Here’s a sample of home providers we’ve worked with recently:
- Patricia, a retired school teacher in her 80’s with a great sense of humor, was looking for help with firewood, grocery shopping and wanted someone to go to concerts with her.
- Randy, a retired gentleman in his 90’s in the Stowe area, wanted a good cook and someone to go to musical events with him. He loves dogs, and pets were okay.
- Joe, a retired communicator in his late 60’s who is a great story teller, preferred an articulate companion who could cook and shop for dinner. His house has spectacular mountain views!
- Greta, an artist and scientist in her 50’s who speaks seven languages and spent five years in South America, now has chronic pain. She needed help with light housekeeping and yard work.
As you can tell, every home provider has a different background. When you are in the program, we’ll tell you about currently available home providers. Then, it’s up to you. You decide whom you want to meet. It’s going to be your home, and it’s your choice.
