Who are the home seekers?
Every home seeker who comes to Home Share of Central Vermont (HSCVT) is unique. Some are young people looking to save money while helping an older person. Some are older, and are care givers. Some are leaving marriages. Some work in the social services and don’t earn a lot of money. Some have relocated for a fresh start in life.
They can be introverted or extroverted, religious or not religious, gourmet cooks or cooks of limited ability. Some have pets, some don’t. On occasion, we’ve even had home seekers with young children.
Recent home seekers have included:
- Tom, a well-educated and thoughtful man nearing 60, with a great job, who was leaving a marriage.
- Brenda, an idealistic recent college grad who thought it would be “neat” to live with an older Vermonter ~ and save money so she can some day buy a house.
- Jackie, in her 50s, already owns a home in Burlington but works in central VT. She has a weekday home share, and spends weekends at her house.
- Gary, in his mid-30s, came to VT for a new job after earning a masters in environmental studies. He’s been a real handy-man, fixing up the house in his home share.
- Nancy, 40, had already worked many years as a caregiver for seriously ill people of all ages before making a match through HSCVT.
- Diane, in her 60s, came to VT from the Midwest, after nursing both her parents during their final years. She was finding it difficult to start over, and came to HSCVT for a fresh start.
As you can tell, everyone has a different background. When you are in the program and ready to meet someone, we’ll tell you about each currently available home seeker. Then, it’s up to you. You decide whom you want to meet. It’s your home, and it’s your choice whom you invite for an introduction.
